Tips and Best Practices to Minimize Your Risk
Cities and states are taking increasingly drastic measures to curb the severity of the pandemic, including the closing of bars, restaurants, and public venues. In some areas, officials have issued “shelter in place” orders in order to compel residents to stay in their homes and limit movement. To further protect yourself, minimize your exposure with the following tips:
Practice Good Hygiene
- Clean hands with sanitizer and wash your hands frequently
- Avoid touching your face and cover coughs and sneezes
- Disinfect “high touch” surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, tables, doorknobs, and handrails regularly
- Increase ventilation by opening windows or adjusting air conditioning
At The Office
- Stop shaking hands – use other noncontact methods of greeting
- Use videoconferencing for meetings when possible
- When not possible, hold meetings in open, well-ventilated spaces
- Disinfect “high touch” surfaces like desks, keyboards, light switches, doorknobs, and telephones
- Consider adjusting or postponing large meetings or gatherings
Stay Home if...
- You are feeling sick
- You have a sick family member in their home

How to Reduce Springtime Allergies

Reduce Springtime Allergies with a SERVPRO Cleaning
Spring is in the air all around Albuquerque and Santa Fe and if you live there you know that with it comes all the allergens and irritants that cause sneezing, sniffling, dripping noses and stuffy heads. Keep your nose cleaner and your head cleaner by having the allergens removed from your home or office.
What Areas Are Most Important to Clean?
In your home or office, the carpet, ducts and upholstery are the largest collectors of allergy producers. Just by making sure that they are consistently and professionally cleaned you can reduce a lot of the major contributors to your allergies.
Carpet Cleaning - Even with regular vacuuming your carpet and padding can collect allergens. Having a professional carpet cleaning company clean your carpets can help drastically.
Duct Cleaning - Even with frequently changing your air duct filters dust and other allergens can get caught between your air conditioning unit and your air vents. While you can make sure to change your filters on a regular basis, it is suggested to have your ducts cleaned once a year at a minimum.
Upholstery Cleaning - Think about how long you keep your couch and how often you get it cleaned. Even vacuuming your couch only removes so much. We suggest having your upholstered furniture cleaned at least a couple of times a year to remove excess dirt.
You know SERVPRO of South Albuquerque as a leader in Fire and Water Cleanup and Restoration, but our professional residential cleaning services can also make a dirty carpet "Like it never even happened."

Should I get the air ducts cleaned? https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-iaq/should-you-have-air-ducts-your-home-cleaned#what-is
“Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern and increased visibility. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air. You have probably seen an advertisement, received a coupon in the mail, or been approached directly by a company offering to clean your air ducts as a means of improving your home's indoor air quality. These services typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on:
the services offered
· the size of the system to be cleaned
· system accessibility
· climatic region
· level of contamination”

Stone, Masonry and Tile Cleaning Tips from IICRC
7/18/2016 (Permalink)
"In today’s home decor, hard surface flooring is playing an increasingly important role. Examples of popular flooring materials include stone, concrete, ceramic/clay, wood, resilient and specialty flooring. These materials appear to be easy to clean, maintain and restore, however, soils on hard surface flooring have a tendency to build up progressively, resulting in erosion. Sooner or later, it’s necessary to clean beyond routine dusting and damp mopping; that’s the time to call in a certified professional for help."
"Identification is Key. There are six categories of hard surface floor covering: natural stone, concrete, ceramic/clay, wood, resilient and specialty. Within these categories are numerous classifications that require different cleaning methodologies. By knowing what the flooring material is, a proper floor maintenance program can be developed."

Stain Removal
7/18/2016 (Permalink)
IICRC approved instructor, Craig Jasper said “If the right steps aren’t followed, a potentially temporary spot can become a permanent stain.” He goes on to provide steps should find a spill or mess that could leave a stain. Here is one step from his list found athttp://www.iicrc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IICRC-Summer-Stains.pdf:
“Always pretest removal agents Spot removal varies based on the type. For instance, mud, soft drinks and ketchup will need to be blotted with a half tablespoon of dishwashing detergent mixed with one glass of water. Then, blot with a solution of one part ammonia and three parts water. For pet accidents and chocolate, follow the same process as above, and then apply white vinegar and blot. For vomit and grass, apply an enzyme detergent and keep the stain moist for 10 minutes. Blot and then apply an ammonia solution, followed by white vinegar. For blood, apply the detergent and ammonia solutions, followed by an enzyme detergent. For beer and wine, apply the detergent solution and then white vinegar. If color changes occur during removal, stop and call a professional.”
